What we think and what we feel are often two very different things. Whatever the logic of a certain situation, we often find ourselves experiencing emotions in utter contrast with what we know to be true. Knowing something to be true and does not mean that we will feel like it is true. There are people with doctors, lawyers, engineers, etc... that at times feel that they are utterly stupid.
The pursuit of Happiness in life is a red herring. People who learn to pursue purpose and fulfillment in life tend to experience much more happiness. But happiness as a goal itself is a mirage. Happiness is the result of a purposeful life.
Empathy and Observation are often confused with each other but they are very different things.
Healthy values often crash into each other. Those self-defeating behaviors are very often not indicators of "bad" character or corrupt values.
