Peace and happiness. Wouldn't life be great if all we always felt good? Seems simple enough in theory but the world keeps swirling all around us. If only we could get things in order: the finances, the kids, the spouse, the boss, etc... If only everything around us were reliable and more predictable. We'd be so much calmer. Or so we tell ourselves. Truth is, there's inevitably another storm ahead. Not sure when or what but we know it's out there, lurking, waiting for the worst possible moment to derail our quest for peace and happiness. If we allow ourselves to believe that calming our worries means we must control the world around us, then we're perpetually at the mercy of the next crisis, whether big or small. What if there's a better path to peace? Maybe our minds are more capable than we realize. If we let go of the illusion that the world around us will always swirl in various ways, then the challenge is to learn to trust that we are capable of handling whatever chaotic events life brings. We will not feel calm and peaceful all the time, probably not even most of the time. We don't have to. Yet as we come to understand and trust our own minds, there's comfort in realizing we'll find our way through the next challenge. Knowing and trusting ourselves: It's the hard part but that is where peace lies, anchored in the awareness and acceptance of the realities around us, that we'll be ok. Through all those other thoughts and emotions, we'll figure out what to do and we'll find a way to be ok. Getting to know and trust your mind? It's what I've been doing for 30 years and never tire of the adventure. I'm ready when you are.
